Introduction
23rd May 2011
The initial list is designed to be a fun list. Only two units are in there because they are any good, otherwise units have been chosen due to an asethetic sense. I may in the future extend this into a tournament force, but we shall see.
So this is what I am taking, why I am taking, and how I shall be building said models.
HQ
Company Command Squad
The squad will consist of my commander, who is a Fallen Angel, and his retinue. They shall have a Mortar (so they can hide, very brave), an Astropath (i have a few outflankers) and a Bodyguard.
The Guardsmen are built from Fantasy Marauders, with Catachan arms (and trimmed shoulders). I need to fit a Company Standard in there, simply because I wanted a banner, and it would be confusing if the unit possessed one, but hadn't paid the points for one.
Not sure how I am going to build the Astropath, but the bodyguard will be the Commander's pet Chaos Spawn.
Elites
Ratlings
I wasn't going to have these, until I found a great picture on the net of someone else's conversions, so I have taken that as a basis and added my own details.
There will be six of them, and they will be based on Plague Monk bodies, with a Crypt Ghoul head, Kroot Rifle arms (with greenstuffed sleeves) and a big Ork scope on top.
Ogryns Ogryns look very chaotic anyway, so it just seemed right. 5 Ogryns in a Chimera (which will have the back roof raised so it looks like they could fit in). I will be using Ogre Bulls, with Sentinel Autocannons for the Ripper Gun. The Bone Head will have two heads (so he is twice as clever) a la World of Warcraft Ogres.
Troops
2 Infantry Platoons
Two Infantry Platoons with Command Squad and 2 Infantry Squads. One platoon as Lascannons and one as Autocannons. The Heavy Weapons will be converted in the older style, with wheeled carriages.
2 Veteran Squads The only unit I chose for its effectiveness, two squads with 3 meltaguns in a Chimera. The veterans will differ from normal squads by having Marauder shoulder pads and Chaos Warrior heads (fully enclosed helms)
Penal Legion Squad Hoping to get enough ready for 'Armies on Parade', I needed an easy Troops choice. Enter the penal legion. I am using Beastman Gors, with Kroot Rifles, and a veteran with a whip as the leader.
Fast Attack
2 Sentinels
2 Sentinels with Lascannons. The current Sentinel looks a little too forward heavy, so I am going to glue a fuel tank on the rear, and have it held in place with chains.
Banewolf This will have a nice large vat of bubbling goo sat in the back.
Rough Riders Love my Rough Riders, especially now they can have meltaguns. 10 of them, using Cold Ones and Marauder Horsemen Bodies, with catachan backpacks.
Heavy Support
Deathstrike Missile Launcher
Was originally going to have a Manticore, because the idea of dropping numerous templates gave me a warm glow, but then I felt that such an megalomaniacal commander would need a Doomsday weapon, so enter the Doommonger. With camo netting.
I do imagine the Commander being in the mold of the best baddies, delivering a long soliloquy about his latest master plan (which means I shall have to regularly laugh maniacally, oh the pain).

And a few pics of what I have already done.
29th May 2011
Every time I start a new army, I try to improve an aspect of my painting, be it black lining, Highlighting or whatever. Now that I am doing an Imperial Guard army, I am facing the prospect of a number of tanks (only 5, which is not many compared to most Guard armies), but I struggle to drybrush tanks to a good standard.
So with the advent of Citadel Inks, I am trying a new technique. The tank hull has been painted Tallarn Flesh (I wanted a more realistic Red Highlight, and I felt this was a good base), which has then then coated with coats of Red Ink.
5th June 2011
Not done a lot this week due to work, but here are a couple of pics of what I have done.
This is the first of the fuel barrels attached to the sentinel, to allow for long range recce. The chains were an absolute pain, lovingly clipped from Marauder flails. Just a little greenstuffing there to finish off the links.
The first chimera is now basecoated. I couldn't remove the Imperial Eagles off of the sides without damaging the rest of the detail, so I have covered them with some plates from the old Chaos vehicle sprue. Just hope I can find some more.
I also wanted the Chaos hatch on top, but it looked too high with the hatch 'lip' on top as well, so I used the top of the fuel canisters from the Hellhound as a support.
And then I have got the back painted. Three coats of red wash and a final coat of black gives this effect. I am fairly happy with this, so I think I will continue and do the rest of the tank.
6th June 2011
I got my sizeable bitz order through the post this morning, so I set to work on a new model, my first Ratling.
I wasn't going to have any in the army, until I saw somebody's conversion on Warseer and this made me choose to have them. I have adapted the idea to my own (the only original piece is now the Plague Monk body).
Got some green stuffing to do for sleeves, but I think I will paint the model first, leaving the arms separate for ease of painting, and then attach them and do the sleeves.
<edit> Don't know if I am going to bother with sleeves, I am quite happy with them having bare arms.
