Where are we? What do we do? When do we meet? What does it cost? Find out here! If you need to know even more, please email us at info@gobstyks.co.uk or post a question on the forum.

When do you meet?Pic: A Club night in full swing

Every Thursday from 6:00pm until 10:00pm. We do not usually meet for the two weeks including Christmas Day and New Year's Day, but apart from that we are always open!

Where do you meet?

In St Andrew's Church Hall, Garmston Street, in Lincoln, LN2 1HZ, England. The hall is just off St Martin's Square, which is at the top of the pedestrianised part of the high street. Here is a map. Or if you are travelling from the A15 here is another route in.

Do I have to be a member?

No, anyone can come along to the meetings. Your first visit is free, and thereafter there is a charge of £2.00 per meeting. This includes entry to the Pic: The Gobstyk's Membership CardClub and use of our gaming tables, terrain, paints and modelling materials. The Club is independent and non profit-making. All proceeds go into Club funds which are used to buy more terrain and other equipment, and to fund raffles and other events. There is no membership fee as such. To become a member you must attend at least half the meetings - see the Club Rules for further details. Members get special benefits and prizes. New in 2003/04 Gobstyk's has adopted a Child Protection Policy.

How old do I have to be?

You have to be 12 years or older, or be at high school to come to the club. Younger gamers may be allowed, but only if accompanied at all times by a responsible adult. Please talk to the Club Secretary about this.

What games do you play?

The Club does not limit itself to any particular games, but Pic: The Roleplayers during a game we are fans of Games Workshop's range of science fiction and fantasy settings. So, most people will be playing Warhammer, Warhammer 40K or Star-Wars Miniatures. We also play Magic the Gathering, UFS Card games, Vampire the eternal struggle,  Roleplay, Bloodbowl, Necromunda,  WarMachine, Mordheim, Battlefleet Gothic and Warmaster. You can read a bit about the games we play here.

The role-players use a variety of systems including Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but they also get into other systems as well.

What facilities does the Club have?

We have two rooms to use and enough space for about twentyChrissy, head snack bar mafioso 6' by 4' gaming boards. The smaller room is usually used for roleplaying. In addition to the gaming rooms we have a kitchen and snack bar, storage for all our equipment, and ladies/gents toilets on site. We have a large and growing collection of terrain to use and always have a painting and modelling table set up with paints and other materials for members to use, free of charge. We have facilities for the disabled and a ramp to provide access for wheelchair users. Our greatest acquisition is a computer and printer that we use for campaigns, newsletters, and creating army lists.

What can't I do?

We have a few rules to make the Club safe and comfortable for everyone. You can't smoke or drink alcohol on Club premises, or use modelling knives. Other than that - provided it doesn't spoil anyone else's enjoyment of the Club - you are pretty much free to do what you like. For more information on things like this, see the Club Rules

Why are you called Gobstyk's?

Gobstyk was the name of the Club Newsletter, and it gradually became adopted as the club name. A Gobstyk is, well, a 'Gob on a stick'. Around here it means someone who is loud, brash, and in yer face. Not that we're at all like that. Oh no.

What's that thing on your logo, jumping over the letters?

It's a Squig (squiggly beast).

Do you have anything to do with Games Workshop?

Pic: The Squig Game in operationWe started life as the very first ever 'official' Games Workshop Club in September 1997 and were opened by none other than Jervis Johnson himself. We were very lucky to get a kick-start like this, and the Company set us up with a starter pack of equipment. Things have moved on now and Games Workshop run their clubs differently, and we are an independent self-running club but still have a special relationship with Games Workshop. The Company helps us out with gifts now and then, and we collaborate with Games Workshop and other clubs around the Country to promote the hobby.

I quite like the sound of all this but I can't get to Gobstyk's. How can I start my own club?

Ah well, that's rather a long story. So we've written some separate advice on starting up.

Blimey that look like a lot of work, are there any Clubs already setup & running near me?

As part of the GCN (Games Club Network) there are a growing number of good gaming clubs all over the country. Here is the current list.
