WORD BEARERS (Jim - Da Wot Notts) vs. IRON FALCONS (Adam –
Gobstyk's)
BATTLE REPORT

TURN ONE
The Word Bearers gain the initiative and quickly
lay down a deadly hail of gunfire to cover the advance of the infantry.
Combined firepower from both Havoc squads, Obliterators and infantry
squads with lascannons destroy one of the Falcons’ Vindicators and stun
the other, preventing it from firing. One of the Falcon Dreadnoughts is
also destroyed, along with their Predator. A huge guttural roar is heard
across the battlefield as the huge daemonic Defiler launched a blast of
warp energy at the Falcon’s Devastator squad, killing 3 instantly.
Meanwhile, both Rhinos charge forward and deploy
smoke launchers. The infiltrating squad on the far right moved towards
the edge of the forest, ready to burst through in the following turn.
The huge form of Daemon Prince Yim K’Hoc swooped forward toward the
piping structure on the left-hand side of the battlefield
Despite the huge barrage of fire sustained, the
Iron Falcons held their nerve and prepared to return fire. With so much
firepower having been thrown at them, the only vehicles that could
return fire were the Whirlwinds, each firing a Castellan missile and
laying down a minefield either side of the hill in the centre of the
battlefield. The Devastator squad recorded its first kill, destroying
the Rhino that had charged to the side of the large crater. The squad
inside eventually managed to climb out of the wreckage without
sustaining any casualties, but immediately threw themselves flat against
the inside of the crater for cover as more gunfire rattled overhead. The
infiltrating squad at the front of the crater was not so lucky,
suffering 2 casualties.

TURN TWO
Bellowing a blood-curling howl, Daemon Prince Yim
K’Hoc sounded the advance, flying towards the edge of the piping
structure, while the remaining Rhino charged straight up he hill and
pulled a handbrake turn, before disgorging its passengers. The squad’s
plasma gunners moved to the front to try and inflict some damage whilst
protecting the Daemonvessel, keeping it safely behind the Rhino.
Once again the Word Bearer gun line opened up,
destroying a second Dreadnought and causing the cannon on the remaining
Vindicator to explode. Bursting through the trees, the infiltrating
squad’s rapid-firing plasma guns blew up the Whirlwind, while a single
lascannon shot caused a critical hull breach in the second Whirlwind,
detonating the Castellan missiles and blowing it apart in a huge
fireball. The Defiler fired another volley of unholy energy at the
Devastators, the huge warp-shot reducing them to a single man.
Seeing their defences crumble, the Iron Falcons had
a moment of indecision, unsure of how to deal with each threat. More
shots were fired towards the crater housing two squads of the enemy, but
by now they were well dug in and suffered no casualties. The
Daemonvessel’s squad however was a prime target and five of them fell
under sustained bolter fire.
With the vast form of Daemon Prince quickly closing
the gap between the two armies, the Librarian ordered his Landspeeder
Tornadoes and Attack Bikes to advance. The ‘speeders swooped to the far
side of the piping complex, using the cover to prepare for an attack
run, whilst the bikes made a beeline for the Daemon Prince, firing their
multi-meltas and raising a roar of pain from their target.

TURN THREE
Realising that now was the time to strike the
killing blow, Yim K’Hoc offered a prayer to the Chaos Gods and was
rewarded with a unit of Daemonettes, who promptly charged into the
flanking Landspeeders, whilst the Daemon Prince charged into the
Venerable Dreadnought. In the centre of the battlefield, the
Daemonvessel started convulsing, it’s body twisting and swelling, before
erupting in a shower of blood as a Greater Daemon of Khorne burst forth
from it’s shattered remains. Bellowing out in rage, the Bloodthirster
swooped forward and charged into the battle lines of the Iron Falcons.
Once again the Havoc squads loosed deadly volleys
of fire, destroying the attack bikes with a salvo of krak missiles and
riddling the body of Librarian Proiteus with autocannon shells. Not even
his blessed power armour could withstand the hail of shells fired at him
and the high-calibre shells blew Proiteus apart. The Defiler again
targeted the remains of the Falcons devastators, vaporising the last
squad member. Seeing that the Falcons front line was now under attack
from the Bloodthirster, the squads in the crater broke cover, charging
forward.
The Daemonettes ripped the Landspeeders to pieces
in seconds before looking around for new victims. Spurred on by the
slaughter all around him, Yim K’Hoc ripped the claw arm of the Venerable
Dreadnought, tearing the cables attaching the sarcophagus to the legs.
Desperate to try and stem the tide, Chaplain Admaeus and his command
squad rushed forward, whilst the Techmarine charged towards the squads
breaking from the crater, hoping to plug the gaps that had started
appearing in the Falcons defensive lines.

TURN FOUR
Yet more daemons materialised as Bloodletters
appeared on the right flank, whilst Mounted Daemonettes swooped across
from the left and charged into Chaplain Admaeus and his command squad,
slaughtering all of them with deadly ease. Meanwhile the Daemonettes
that slaughtered the ‘speeders charged into a squad of marines still
picking themselves out of the wreckage of their Rhino.
The Bloodthirster continued to slaughter his way
through two squads of Falcons, before being dispatched back to the warp
by a well-placed powerfist. Having finally ripped the Venerable
Dreadnought to pieces, Yim K’Hoc quickly surveyed the battlefield. All
that could be seen was death and destruction, Pleased with his army’s
work, he charged forward towards the battered remains of the only squad
not fighting in hand-to-hand combat with his forces and felt a fierce
pride in knowing that these worshippers of the false Emperor were being
slaughtered mercilessly in the name of Chaos. Suddenly a powerfist
connected with the mighty Daemon’s head, crushing its skull and killing
it instantly. The essence of the mighty Daemon Prince spilled out of
it’s broken body, and a small cheer went up from the besieged loyalists.
Their glory was short-lived however, as the rest of the Word Bearers
wiped them out to a man.
