Games Day 2001
The day started reasonably arrived at 9 Oclock and set up terrain on a table in
the main room. There was a cell leader for our section, and although I didnt meet
him, we did get some drinks and T-shirts provided and away we went. So there I was wearing
my tent (aka one size fits all shirt) helping to run the Arena of Comedy (I
think I had more fun than those running the inquisitor game at the other end of our
table). The morning went quick and our game was popular, indeed we had a number of people
come back for second or even third games, it wasnt till later that I understood why.
Lunch was a little hurried, though very tasty, as GW seemed to have forgotten they were
providing for clubs as well as staff (hope they had enough to go round).
Later, I had a brief chance to look round and discovered that it wasnt anything
like previous Games Days I had been to. The Black Library that should have
been chock full of participation games (and people) seemed to be over run with computers
(why go to Games Day to do something you can do at home?). In the few minutes I spent in
there the only mildly interesting thing that happened was that I was accosted by a kid who
couldnt get a printer to work (perhaps our shirts should have been a different in
colour from the staff s). Upstairs was better but there still didnt seem to be
as much going on as in previous years and I didnt have time to look in the studio so
I cant comment on that.
Did anyone else notice or was it only me who thought the management wanted shot of us,
everything came to a standstill at 3 Oclock when presentations and advertising was
going on. They even turned the lights down so far we could barely see to finish the game
we were playing. The only other thing I can say is Im glad I didnt pay for a
ticket.
Thanks to those who supported our games,
Cheers, Anna.
PS Dont worry Will I wont mention how long it took us to get home.
