| Warehouse 51 is a participation game that we put together for a Citadel Open
Day at Games Workshop's HQ in Nottingham. In this project you can read the background to
the project, see the terrain we built and miniatures we painted for the event, and look at
some snaps from the day itself. We wanted a relatively small, quick game that would be
fun and visually appealing. After some thought we decided to pit Colonel Shaeffer's Last
Chancers against some Orks, with a mission to steal a valuable and secret vehicle from
Warehouse 51 (naturally!) deep behind enemy lines.
Colonel Schaeffer's Last Chancers are a do-or-die unit of ex convicts, who have been
promised their freedom should they survive the mission (if you've seen Kelly's Heroes, or
the Dirty Dozen you'll know what we mean).
Mission : warehouse 51
+++ After a bitter struggle on Dalimar the
Imperium finally prevailed and managed to drive off the Eldar Rebels. But preserving the
glory of the Emperor had cost many human lives, and their forces were badly depleted.
+++ The Orks - who had been watching the battle unfold below -
were well aware of the Imperiums weakness and made an opportunistic strike. They
pushed far into Imperial territory and captured a number of important installations. One
of the most important was Warehouse 51.
+++ During their first battle Imperial troopers had
captured a number of advanced Eldar vehicles. These were stowed in warehouses awaiting the
attention of the Techpriests. Warehouse 51 housed the most precious booty of all - a
complete and fully functioning Falcon Anti-Grav Tank.
+++ Allowing such advanced technology to fall into
the hands of the Orks was a grave mistake which cost many an officer dear. And now
Warehouse 51 was well behind enemy lines. A frontal attack would take days or weeks.
Another solution had to be found.
+++ One moon of the Dalimar system was home to
Rectitude IV, a maximum security penal colony. R-IV was 'home' to some of the most
vicious, and talented, psychopaths in the known universe.
+++ Eleven such miscreants were assembled and offered
a final opportunity to salvage something from their sorry lives in the glorious service of
the Emperor. Their salvation was to be as absolute as their mission was deadly. Led by
Colonel Schaeffer, Deep-strike into enemy territory and steal or destroy the top-secret
contents of Warehouse 51.
+++ This is your mission. Choose to accept it and you
could win your very own box set of Last Chancers. The player(s) with the highest victory
point total at the end of the day gets the prize. (Note: this is what we did on the day.
We are not giving way boxes of Last Chancers on this web site!)
+++ Good luck. Now turn read the details of your
mission.
Objectives
Break into Warehouse 51 and steal the Falcon Anti-Grav Tank. If you
cannot steal it then destroy it.
The Enemy
A small Ork force defends Warehouse 51. At the commencement of the
mission most of the Orks are in reserve with the exception of 6 grots posted at the
Warehouse as sentries. The sentries move and detect the Last Chancers as described in the
Sentries special mission rules.
Raising the alarm
The sentries will raise the alarm if they spot a Last Chancer, if
there is gunfire (except sniper rifles), if are attacked in close combat and survive, or
if they are attacked in close combat and killed and 4+ is then rolled on a D6.
Moving Ork reserves into battle
If the alarm is raised then the reserves will appear on a D6 roll of
4+ on the first turn after the alarm is raised, 3+ on the next turn, 2+ on the following
turn, and then automatically. Roll separately for each unit in reserve.
Missile fire or ordnance blasts will raise the alarm and all
reserves will appear immediately without having to make a reserves roll.
The warehouse
Warehouse 51 is fortified. The main doors are armour 14. The walls
are too tough to be damaged by the weapons available to the Chancers. All doors into the
warehouse are locked. The only way in is to blast through the main doors or to get on the
flat roof, switch off the fan, and enter through the fan vent.
Victory conditions
The game will end after 20 minutes. At that time victory will be
apportioned as follows:
Stealing the Falcon Anti-Grav Tank 200 pts
Destroying the Falcon Anti-Grav Tank 50 pts
Getting inside Warehouse 51 30 pts
Turning off the roof fan 20 pts
Getting on the roof of Warehouse 51 20 pts
For each Ork killed 10 pts
For each Last Chancer left alive 25 pts
Now, go on to look at the miniatures we painted up for the Last Chancers
