Marshalling bay of the Strike Cruiser "Hunter"

Lost in thought, Wolf Priest Vultan the Bloody walked towards the silent hulk of Venerable Brother Hrothgar. "We near our destination brother, preparations are almost complete, and preliminary reports indicate there are foes aplenty for us to fight." In a strange, tinny voice Hrothgar replied.

"Thank you for confirmation Lord Priest, but I do not think that is the reason you would speak to me."

The all-knowing perception of the Old One never failed to unnerve him.

"No Brother. But I have heard that several branches of the Inquisition will be present. And there is famously little common ground between us."

"We both strive for the elimination of the xenos, do we not?" The monotone voice gave the question a hard edge.

Evenly, the Priest replied, "True enough. But we do not so casually cast aside and crush those who fought by our side once victory is achieved."

There was a brief burst of static, that the puzzled Vultan quickly realised was laughter. "You have studied the reports of the first struggle for Armageddon. Do not worry. I am sure both our motives will largely work together."

"And if they do not?"

With a grind and hiss of servos and pistons, the dreadnought turned to face him.

"I was there upon the banks of the river Chaeron when the World Eaters broke upon us. I shared the exultation of the PDF troopers when victory was achieved. And I felt the horror and revulsion when I saw the endless stream of humanity being marched to the labour camps under the watchful eye of the Inquisition. One way or another, that will not happen again."

The harsh tone sent a shiver of defiance and fear down the warrior’s spine.

"For the Wolftime, Brother Hrothgar."

"For the Wolftime, Brother Priest."

As he turned and strode along the lines of marines, the metal giant once again fell silent……

"A heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. There is nothing as wretched or as hated in all the worlds as a Traitor."
